NACD, Datu Research release case studies on the economic benefits of soil health practices

Research conducted by NACD and Datu Research has found that corn and soybean farmers who use cover crops and/or no-till can improve their bottom lines by over $100 per acre (read the full press release here).

You can read about the economic and soil health benefits of using these conservation practices in four case studies now available on NACD’s website. Each case study includes year-to-year budget data, as well as real farmer insights on why and how to use no-till and cover crops. Among other valuable takeaways, the study revealed that by using soil health practices farmers can:

  • Cut fertilizer costs by up to $50 per acre;

  • Cut erosion repair costs by up to $16 per acre; and

  • Increase yields by up to $76 per acre.

You can read more about the Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois farmers who participated in this three-year study on NACD’s website.
