New materials on personnel management have been added to NACD’s Members Only section!

Our conservation district members asked for more personnel management resources and we delivered! Head to the NACD Members Only section of our website to view and/or download tips on resolving conflict at the interpersonal- and agency-level, an overview guide to building district capacity through new hires, sample job descriptions, AND an in-depth handbook on managing district personnel.

We want to hear from you! What resources or materials would be helpful to your district or state association that aren’t yet available in the Members Only section? Please contact Director of Communications Whitney Forman-Cook with your suggestions.

Did you know that as a conservation district board member, you are responsible for hiring and managing your district’s personnel?

In this month’s Did You Know? NACD’s District Operations and Member Services Committee identifies how to write a good job description (vague or tedious job postings won’t cut it!) and provides tips on how to conduct performance reviews using job descriptions as your guide. Help us select the next Resource cover!

The Fall edition of The Resource is set to be released in early November, but we still haven’t selected a cover photo. Help us decide which photo to feature by clicking here to cast your vote.

All five photos were submitted to the NACD photo contest last year. Are you interested in submitting your own photos to NACD’s national photo contest? Click here for more details. The contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages who reside in the U.S. or its territories, and the deadline to submit is December 1. Thanks for voting!

For your calendar: Upcoming U&C webinars

The next NACD Urban and Community Conservation webinar – to be held November 16 from noon-1:00pm Eastern – will teach participants how to use and navigate the EPA’s Water Finance Clearinghouse.

The Clearinghouse is a web‐based portal designed to help communities make informed decisions about their drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure needs. It includes two searchable databases: one contains available funding sources for water infrastructure and the other includes resources on financing mechanisms and approaches.

The schedule for FY18 Urban and Community Conservation webinars has been posted! NACD’s U&C webinars are sponsored by The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company and are free to participate in. To register, email NACD Senior Advisor Deb Bogar with your name, title, district or business name, and state.

Happy Halloween from NACD!

Halloween marks the last day of Bat Week! NACD has been celebrating this week to help raise awareness for some of our favorite pollinators! Check out this blog to learn more about how integral bats are to our ecosystems and how you can be a friend to bats in your own backyard.
